Reconstruction of a Miocene (8 million-year-old) landscape commissioned by the Abu Dhabi Islands Archaeological Survey for an exhibition
being mounted in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in Autumn 2004.
This picture was created 2.5 metres long by a metre high, and was enlarged by a factor of three
to make a giant backdrop for fossil material that had been found in Abu Dhabi recently.
The fossil animals recreated in the picture include extinct species of elephants
(Stegotetrabelodon syrticus and Gomphotheres), and extinct species of hippo, ostrich, hyaena, crocodile, turtle, horse and tiger etc.
